Realtime
e-mail business continuity
Not all Internet mail security
suites are the same.
MailDefender specializes in
offering realtime failover and
business continuity in addition
to message hygene such as SPAM
and virus filering and policy
management. MailDefender
LiveArchive is the key component
of the business continuity that
is included with the product at
no additional charge and
features:
- Access to past 7 days of clean
inbound email
- Preconfigured profile with users
name and all email (SMTP)
addresses
- Continuous delivery of email
even while the target mail
server is down
- Realtime delivery of all inbound
and outbound mail
MailDefender LiveArchive allows
you to correspond with your
customers securely from any web
browser even if your Internet
connection is down, even if your
mail server is down, even if you
have a corrupted mail profile.
Just take your laptop or mobile
phone to Starbucks or connect a
wireless Internet card and your
mail will be waiting for you at
https://archive.MailDefender.com
How does it
work?
MailDefender accepts Internet
e-mail on your behalf and scans
it for known threats such as
SPAM, malware, viruses, trojans
and so on. After the processing
is complete and all the policies
are satisfied, MailDefender
opens a connection to your
server to deliver a message or
if the connection fails it puts
the message in a queue and keeps
on trying until the connection
is established and message
delivered.
With LiveArchive enabled,
MailDefender makes a copy of the
valid email and delivers it to a
secure server in our data
center. This secure server
stores the message in your
account and keeps it for a
period of seven (7) days,
allowing you to access your mail
if you are for some reason
unable to access your own mail
server or that mail server is
temporarily unable to connect to
the Internet. Message delivery
happens in realtime even if your
own mail server may be offline,
allowing you to collaborate
directly from the archive
server, read and respond to
messages, knowing that the mail
will eventually be delivered to
your server but you experience 0
downtime. All you need is a
secure web browser.
Frequently
Asked Questions
What does
MailDefender LiveArchive cost?
MailDefender LiveArchive is
included free of charge with
your MailDefender subscription.
Will the mail
still arrive to me?
Absolutely, MailDefender does
not "redirect" messages, it
creates a copy. This assures all
compliance requirements that all
messages sent to your domain
will arrive at your own mail
server.
Will the mail
still stream even if my Internet
connection is down?
Absolutely, MailDefender
LiveArchive receives email in
realtime regardless of the
server availability. You can be
down for days and nobody would
know.
How is this
different from ETRN/mailbagging/mail
queueing?
ETRN and mailbagging (mail
queueing) mechanisms store
undeliverable messages in a
temporary queue and retry
delivery once your mail server
comes up. MailDefender provides
this service by default and will
queue your messages for delivery
for seven (7) days with attempts
to deliver every 15 minutes
during the first hour of outage
and every hour after that.
I don't like
the webmail interface, can I
have Microsoft Outlook Web
Access?
Absolutely, MailDefender
LiveArchive has a flexible
forwarding mechanism that can
deliver your messages to one of
our Linux or Microsoft Windows /
Microsoft Exchange 2007 servers.
However, additional charges
apply for the licensing of those
systems.
Do I need to
maintain or manage the queue?
There is no maintenance or
management involved, you just
have to enable LiveArchive and
you're set.
How is this
different from MailDefender
Compliance Archiving and other
Archiving solutions out there?
MailDefender LiveArchive is
meant for business continuity -
allowing you to stay in business
when your mail server goes down
or Internet connection is
disabled. Because of the
frequency and scope of problems
with mail servers that are
frequently overloaded we decided
to create the LiveArchive
product that allows you to
continue communicating with your
customers even when the
infrastructure cannot support
it.
MailDefender Compliance
Archiving and other Archiving
systems are designed for
government and regulatory
compliance purposes. Often,
depending on the regulation,
there is no way to respond to
the message, no way to delete it
or tamper with the message at
all. It is there for
accountability purposes.
LiveArchive by comparison is a
full blown standalone mail
server for your organization
that preserves your corporate
identity.
